Story of Lahroni Village

Wake of expectation for right to land after a long await

After eight years of persuasion, 41 Land owners out of 94 from Lahroni village of Karahal Block in Sheopur District of Madhya Pradesh managed to get their land demarcated in last 4 days. Still demarcation process is going on.

The case goes back to the year 2003, when 94 families (74 tribals and 20 dalits beneficiaries) of Lahroni village were given land entitlement (pattas) by the Madhya Pradesh Government. These families were given only the entitlements paper not the physical possession and never their land was demarcated. The total area of land assigned included 130 hectares. Also ther were 6 beneficiaries of Bhoodan Land (Donated land collected by Eminent leader Vinoba Bhave), whom had entitlement paper since 1990, but not the possession. The people had land documents in their hand but did not know where their lands are existed. Some time they tried to contact with local revenue employee (Patwari) but Patwari showed them land but never demarcate. Actually their land was grabbed by the non-tribal peoples from outside Madhya Pradesh.
